Grey^s Anatomy Season 3 Episode 03: "Sometimes A Fantasy"

Grey's Anatomy Ep 3!=D The long and short of it...

Meredith is in bed. Naked. She smiles and turns to kiss Derek good morning. It is a lovely morning... She stretches. Then turns to kiss Finn good morning. Did I say lovely? It is a fantastic morning. As both men reach in to kiss her, a loud thud crashes Mer back to reality. A dream?! A fantasy... The clunking noise is courtesy of a grumpy George, who is expressing to Mer and everyone but Callie that he's not ready for them to move in together. Izzie lets the others know that she's coming in to SG to see the Chief today about getting her internship back (but she ends up lingering in front of the hospital for hours). In fact, Bailey has practically outright told the Chief that it is a personal favour to her to talk to Izzie about all the hurdles involved in getting back into the surgical fold. Cristina thinks Burke is Super-Burke and that he's just milking his injury and not really seeing him as a patient. Mark aka McSteamy is sooo into Addy (now that's another woman it'd be niiice to be=D Except for, you know, the finding of a pair of McPanties in her McHubby's pockets) and he knows they had something, has something as per last season's declaration that he loved her. He knows, or at least is pushing Addy to see that he's no "transcontinental bootie call". Finn and Derek are all boys with their toys, each trying to one-up each other in their quest to court Mer. From "dating is fun", Mer is driven crazy by their antics and tells them she wants them to be looking at her, not each other!

The med front... There's a girl Alex admits who is a foster child. She came in with a huge, ugly gash on her leg in need of stitches. He notices other bruises and cuts and *shock, horror* a deep cut on the inside of her arm that has been freaking stapled together!! So, he immediately jumps to the understandable conclusion that this poor girl has been abused. But she denies this vehemently, instead telling him a secret: she has superpowers. She's always getting beaten up because she protects the weak and one time, just to convince a guy of her superpowers, she let him punch her 25 times in the stomach and once with a baseball bat. She doesn't feel the pain when she removes the staples crudely from her gash. When doing the cold pressure test, she is revealed to have an abnormally high pain threshold! On imaging, the docs discover massive internal bleeding because of all the trauma, what with the punching of her stomach. They deduce that she has a genetic condition that makes her less responsive to pain at a normal level, and because she's been bounced around foster homes so much, it wasn't discovered earlier. Needless to say, they cleared her foster parents of abuse. The little girl has the whole hospital looking for her when she refuses to go under the knife, fearing that she'd lose her superpowers and her foster parents wouldn't want her anymore=( Alex finally finds her and tells her that she may not have superpowers, but she's still a hero and who wouldn't want a hero for a kid=)

Callie aka Dr. Torres has an ortho patient who's in for an ankle replacement. This'll be his 4th surgery in such a short period of time that George doesn't quite agree with this. He brings it up with Callie, expressing his opinion that he doesn't agree with the concept of letting a man run his joints ragged then just giving a quick-fix, only to have him ruin it again. Callie feels that if they can do wonders, why shouldn't they? So, George takes him up on his earlier request to meet the guy who's his cadaver donor. When looking at a young dude who died on the op table due to complications for lipo, the patient remarks that he didn't think the dude would have lipo. George not-so-subtly remarks that lots of people have procedures they don't need. But that's not his guy, this is, and he reveals a body in storage with a flourish. The patient is aghast: why would he get such an old donor?! He is even more aghast when George reveals that this super old-looking guy is actually 2 years younger than he is. Needless to say, the patient self-discharges. Callie is furious. She arranges for George to see a super-cool surgery and he meddles?! George is obviously still stewing about the whole living arrangement thing and they have an argument. He says that she's always moving at warp speed and inadvertently blurts out that he isn't ready for them to move in together. Callie is disgusted and says that he should've mentioned that the first few gazillion times she'd asked so she could tell him that she wasn't either and she'd look for her own place in a week. George feels the guilt...

Another patient has seizures and is to undergo a corpus callosotomy to repair this. He wants to go through with the op despite his wife's misgivings because he wants to be able to take care of their baby. Heartbreakingly, after the procedure, he is unable to form the words to identify things around him. Even his wife and, even worse, his baby's name, eludes him. This is normal post this procedure and it will take a while for new connections to be made but he needs his wife's support. Cristina takes this in and we see later when she comes home that she slaps 3 pieces of whole chicken on the kitchen counter. She hacks neatly through the middle of one and tosses a suture kit from her bag and tells Burke curtly to put it back together. She finally understands that Burke is depressed but she's not about to let him rot either. She's offering her support this way and hopefully, Burke'll go on to get his strength and dexterity back=) Izzie is still standing outside come evening and Alex goes to her on his way out. He recalls what Bailey said earlier about the little girl being a poster child to show that pain is important. Pain is necessary. Pain is there for a reason. Alex asks Izzie where it hurts and she says, "Everywhere". He takes her home. We see Addy, Callie, Richard and Mark all checking in to the same hotel. Neither sees each other except Richard who makes small talk with Dr. Sloane, asking him what he's doing in Seattle. Chief, I presume he's still after Addy;) And in Mer's room, she shares the strawberry ice-cream Finn gave her (when he date-crashed ala boys-with-their-toys again to take revenge against Derek's lunch actions) with Izzie and George.

Next ep: Episode 04 "What I Am". Addy doubts her abilities as a doc, Cristina pushes Burke's rehab, one of the interns have their own medical emergency and Izzie gets the surprise of her life! Don't miss out! Not that I ever need to tell you guys;)

Some McFamily-out-shopping photos! McDreamy buys organic. Is it any surprise?;)
